Bruce Rauner: Job One Is Less Government in Illinois

Illinois Gubernatorial Candidate Bruce Rauner has laid out one of the first initiatives he'd address if elected Governor:  Find a way to reduce the total units of government.

Tom Kacich covers the story in the News-Gazette:

One of the first things he'd do as governor, Republican nominee Bruce Rauner said Wednesday, is appoint a task force to study Illinois' state and local government structure with an eye toward reducing their numbers and size.

Rauner also said, during a brief stop at the Scott Bidner farm northwest of Champaign, that he soon will unveil "a comprehensive tax review and tax overhaul" plan.

We know that reducing government is something that makes sense for every voter - except folks who happen to be elected as Township Supervisors - and we here at the Truth Team support it.

Rep. Ed Sullivan: It's Time We Got Government Out Of The Way Of Small Business

State Representative Ed Sullivan - who is known as a strong fiscal conservative - has come out fighting for the Illinois economy.  He wants to head back to Springfield to help create more jobs, more opportunities, and ultimate an even better Illinois.

He specifically wants to tackle issues that affect small businesses and transportation:

It's time we got government out of the way of small business so entrepreneurs can create good-paying jobs. To accomplish this we need to reduce the cost of doing business in Illinois. I am proud to have written the law that reformed unemployment insurance, saving 50% of Illinois businesses in unemployment insurance costs. We must do more. This means actually reforming workers compensation, further addressing unemployment insurance, and reducing the burden onerous litigation places on businesses.

Then, we need to look towards the future by investing in desperately-needed transportation improvements. I voted for the current capital program that is in place, but much more is needed including the Route 53 extension. And as our budgetary situation improves, I hope to invest much more in our transportation so we can reduce gridlock and take advantage of Illinois' competitive advantage as the transportation hub of the Midwest.

Huzzah! Dan Cronin Delivers on "Smaller Government"

This has to be music to EVERY taxpayer's ears.  Doesn't matter if you are a Republican, a Democrat, a Green or a Liberatarian.  You have to be thrilled that someone in Illinois is taking action to dismantle an unnecessary unit of government.

That someone?  Dan Cronin - the DuPage County Chairman.

Six months after being granted the power to eliminate 13 local government entities, DuPage County is working to disband one of them. 

The county board on Tuesday agreed to begin the process to dissolve the Fairview Fire Protection District, which covers an unincorporated area near Downers Grove. 

"This is a momentous occasion," county board Chairman Dan Cronin said before the vote. " 

It's the first time this new law has been used in the state of Illinois. This is the demonstration of how you go about dissolving units of local government in a responsible and thoughtful way."

Good for you, DuPage County government.   With all the news coming out of DuPage about government waste and lack of results - especially in the DuPage County Auditor's office - this is certainly great news.
