Aurora Austriaco Claimed Victory?

File this under:  super weird news.

I suppose in today's vernacular, the thing to say would be #FakeNews, right?

Over on AnybodyButAurora.com, a story from a news outlet called the Manilla Mail is shown that contains just flat out wrong information.  What information?  Well...it talks about how Aurora Austriaco WON the vote for State Representative.  Oh really?  She got trounced.

From the story:
Aurora Abella Austriaco, a Filipino American, made history in here by becoming the first Asian American to be elected to the state legislature.
What made her success even sweeter is that this 43-year-old lawyer unseated an incumbent Republican state representative who served the district for eight terms by winning 59% of the votes cast. She was earlier wrongly reported as having lost the election.
In her 17 years as a real estate litigation attorney and as a certified mediator, Austriaco has devoted herself to serving the children, elderly, women and minority population of the state.
Nope.  Not even close to the truth.  Don't take our word here at the Truth Team for it.  Just...Look at what some of the responses had to say:

Aurora Austriaco - BFF with Rod Blagojevich

The 'hits' keep coming for Maine Township District 207 School Board candidate Aurora Austriaco as she continues to keep a low profile in the race for school board.

Over on #AnybodyBut Aurora, there's a 30 second video that shows her involvement with former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.

We've covered Aurora Austriaco earlier here on the Truth Team.   There's a post showing how the local public watchdog in Park Ridge mentioned her and her campaign for District 207, then there's the ballot challenge that she barely passed, then there's that time that she failed pay her property taxes (whoops!!) or how her tenure for the local Park Ridge government ended because she couldn't even show up for the meetings!  Seriously.

With just a month left to go, we're hoping that the voters in Park Ridge and Des Plaines will examine Aurora's record closely and decide for themselves:  she's not a fit for school board.

Watchdog: Does Missing Meetings Disqualify Aurora Austriaco for Maine 207 School Board?

There have been an increasing number of local blog/news outlets that cover hyperlocal news in communities around Illinois.  And many of them are adopting a stance of being a 'watchdog' in the spirit of the Edgar County Watchdogs that have made quite a name for themselves.

But there's at least one of these outlets that has been pumping out local, opinionated coverage on the government and politics at play in town for more than ten years.  And that's the Public Watchdog, who covers Park Ridge government and politics.  He or she has been doing it so long that they have a pretty great url in https://www.publicwatchdog.org/.

You can look back through their archives and see that the earliest post is from 13 years ago in 2004, but the real action picked up around 2007.

Well...the reason for this post is to point out that the engaged community over there is already up-to-date on Maine Township District 207 Candidate Aurora Austriaco and all the baggage that comes with her campaign.  Check out the comment in the feed on this post and you can see it in the image at the very top of the page.

The Watchdog even offers a bit of a commentary saying that the missing of the meetings is a big deal
The thing that concerns us most is that Ms. Austriaco missed over 30% of Her Park Ridge Planning & Zoning Commission meetings. Whether the voters think that disqualifies her for the D-207 board is an open question...
Over 30% of the meetings.  Park Ridge and Des Plaines can do better.
