From United States Senator Mark Kirk's Facebook Wall comes this photo of him at the Mexican Independence Day Parade over the weekend:

Note...just like his colleague Senator Dick Durbin, Kirk is NOT wearing a sash.

Solid Advice: No Capes For Politicians (Along With The Sensible 'No-Sash Rule')

Over on Twitter, we had this little nugget brought to our attention by State Representative Ron Sandack:  seems like a good rule for politicians:  no capes.

As overheard this morning as even the campaign manager is embarrassed by the sash.

Truth Team: "Why is Mike Frerichs wearing a sash?"

ZK:  "Well...it *is* good sash weather.  Cool.  Breezy."

TT: "Why a sash?  Besides European Royalty, who wears a sash? ...Where do you even get a sash?"

ZK:  "You're right.  It is strange.  In fact...let's cross to the other side of the street.  Cover me."

A few more data points for those of you keeping score at home on who was wearing a sash during the Mexican Independence Day Parade yesterday in Chicago.

Here's a shot of Cook County President Tony Preckwinkle and Chicago Teacher's Union Boss Karen Lewis.  Guess what?  No sashes.

But...Mike Frerichs?  The guy who is known to so desperate to be a considered a 'big boy' in Illinois politics and Democrat circles?  You guessed it.  He rocked the sash.

New Data On Mike Frerichs' Latest Campaign Move

The latest survey data has come back from "We Ask Some of America" and the results aren't that surprising.  In asking voters across Illinois why anyone 'would wear a sash', they overwhelmingly identified the two major areas of sash-wearing: Pageants and European Royalty.  In surprising news, Candidate for Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs' latest move of wearing a sash during the Mexican Independence Day Parade appears to have registered on voters radar.

Add Chicago Mayoral candidate Bob Fioretti to the list of folks who opted against wearing a "Look at me!" sash at yesterday's Mexican Independence Day Parade.  Thankfully.

Let's recap:

US Senator Dick Durbin?  Nope.  No sash.

Count Illinois Governor Pat Quinn amongst the folks like Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel who didn't wear a sash at yesterday's parade.  That's him in a screenshot from video taken yesterrday

But...like European Royalty, Mike Frerichs - candidate for Treasurer - couldn't help himself.

"A sash?  Don't mind if I do!"

"Anything to get me attention, please!"

Compare with this one of Mike Frerichs who is DESPERATE for attention.  "Look at me!  Pay attention to me!  Love meeeee!"

Survey Data Says: Even Split On Sashes And Property Tax Avoiders

We're just as surprised as you are that it is such an even split between "King" Mike Frerichs and all of European Royalty.

We would have thought that the Royals would have taken the lion's share of the pie in this one.  But...Mike Frerichs is becoming known throughout 'the land' for his amazing way to draw negative attention.

Earmuffs, a Sash, and Skipping Your Property Taxes: The Mike Frerichs Story

We mentioned it earlier, but we can't help but see where Mike Frerichs is getting his inspiration from these days:  European Royalty.

We mean...where else would a guy who is known to adore wearing earmuffs turn to to ground his approach as a 'public servant'?

Just look at his history:  Mike Frerichs failed to pay his property taxes for seven years.  If you were trying to act like royalty, of course you wouldn't pay your taxes, right?  

If we drew a venn diagram that had on one side:  people who wear a sash.  And on the other: people who don't pay property taxes.  Guess who would be in the middle?  Just a few folks:  European Royalty and candidate for Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs.
